If you’d like to find some of Warsaw’s hidden gems, we can recommend a few very interesting places.

History

The Palace in Wilanów – the baroque royal summer residence, located at the end of the Royal Route. The palace is outstanding  testimony of Poland's magnificence in the past.

In 1677 the Polish King Jan Sobieski III purchased the Wilanow village and ordered Augustyn Locci, the king’s court architect,to build there his residence there. Later in 17th century the initial project of the King’s palace was constantly enlarged. After completion, the residence comprised of elements of an Old - Polish nobility house, an Italian garden villa and a French palace in the style of Louis XIV.

 After the death of the King, the Palace became the property of his sons and later was owned by the magnate families: Sieniawscy, Czartoryscy, Lubomirscy, Potoccy and Braniccy. From 1730 to 1733 the Polish king August II the Strong from Saxon dynasty was living in Wilanow as well.

In the 1805 the owner Stanisław Kostka Potocki opened the public museum in Wilanow, which was one of the first in Poland. 

The Wilanow Palace was not destroyed during the II World War, however the Germans robbed most of the art collection which was later restored.

Attractions:

Gallery of Polish Portrait – located at the first floor. The exposition includes the portraits of  the Polish monarchs and noble people.

Royal Apartments – you will be able to visit i.e. Crimson Room, The Queen’s Antechamber, The King’s Antechamber, The King’s Bedroom, The King’s Library, The Palace Chapel, Lapidarium (Cabinet of Antiquities) and much more.
 
The Wilanów Park – 45 hectares garden comprising of a two-level Baroque garden, a neo-Renaissance rose garden, an English landscape park and an English-Chinese landscape park. The Park has a unique atmosphere thanks to its natural lake and stream and its man-made pond dating back to King Jan III’s days.
The Park can be entered through a gate from the Palace courtyard which is adorned by beautiful magnolias and roses.
